Musical Note Cake

Last weekend, London town had some faboulous weather, and so for my dad and sister’s joint birthday party, we had a family BBQ. Naturally, I was in charge of bringing the cakes. My sister had already decided months ago that she wanted her cake to look like a musical note, so I had a chance to be organised and take my time doing this cake.

It is a vanilla sponge cake, filled with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream. I piped the musical notes onto the cake board, using royal icing that I’d dyed black. Also, I’m not sure if you can see it clearly in the pictures below, but I sprinkled glitter over the cake, to compliment the diamontĂ© encrusted ‘Happy Birthday’ ribbon.

This cake was surprisingly easy to do and I got it finished with plenty of time to spare, which makes a change! I am really pleased with how it turned out and so was my sister (yay!). It’s always nice to have a cake turn out, exactly how the recipient envisioned it in their mind, plus she’s my lil sis, so it was extra special :-).
